Down Syndrome Guild of Southeast Michigan

The Down Syndrome Guild of Southeast Michigan (DSGSEMI) is a 501C-3 non-profit organization
established in 1999 with an excellent history of responding to the changing needs of individuals with
Down syndrome and their families. Our constituency is composed of over 250 individuals with Down
syndrome of all ages, 900 family members and over 200 local professionals in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb,
St. Clair, Livingston, Lapeer, Monroe, Washtenaw and Genesee counties.

The DSGSEMI is southeast Michigan's leading organization for resources and information about all things
Down syndrome.  Our families rely on the DSGSEMI for up-to-date educational information about
programs like Early On, for example.  They also look to us for recommendations about Ds friendly
doctors, dentists, PT/OTs and speech therapists.  Additionally, they appreciate being made aware of
community, governmental and legislative advocacy opportunities.

We make home visits when a baby with Ds is born and bring along a resource basket full of excellent
material for parents to reference as they begin their Ds journey.  We host New Parent Breakfasts so that
these families can meet each other and begin to build their support network. More importantly, they gain
confidence from knowing that they are not alone on their journey.

We have wonderful partners such as Team GUTS for future Special Olympians; 4 th Wall Theatre
Company for future actors and actresses; and, Warrior Express for future dancers.  Club 21 provides a
safe environment for our young adults to hangout and dance the night away.
Family events such as our annual summer picnic and holiday party continue building our strong Ds

Looking ahead, the DSGSEMI will be able to provide scholarship funds to families looking for help paying for
additional therapies, summer camp, or medical expenses.

The DSGSEMI provides all of this and more but we can't do these things without funding. We welcome
you to donate to the DSGSEMI and participate in our Buddy Walk for Down Syndrome.
